Quilt Project

About

I have been sewing since I was about 15 years old. Sewing was a fascination of mine growing up watching my great grandmother quilt and staring at the quilts she and my great great grandmother previously had made. When I first began to sew I did it by altering clothes from thrift stores with needle and thread. My freshman year of college I was given my first sewing machine when I volunteered to design costumes for the theatre program where I was going to school. This volunteer program inspired a love of design, which I did throughout university and for a few years after completing my degree.

Years later I am no longer involved in theatre, although I quite appreciate the art form. My love of sewing has grown beyond clothes into forms of crafting, quilting, screen printing, and surface design. This blog was originally started to document the items we made and were given when we found out we were expecting our first child, Sam, who was born in April of 2011. While working on these projects and the blog I realized I wasn't documenting other projects I was working on, such as gifts for friends and family. As well, I have some projects in the works that go beyond making- I'm working on "making with a purpose."

Needless to say this blog will stay true to its original purpose, crafts for Sam and other wee ones. However, I expect in time it will evolve to capture the diversity of projects I make and share with others. As with life this blog is a work in progress.
